Background: Employees at Meijer's corporate office, Walker Campus, were ignoring the recycling bins located throughout the office and instead were throwing their trash in landfill bins. This resulted in increased waste removal costs for the company, as well as unsightly piles of rubbish around campus. Together with Meijer's Sustainability Council, the Communications team determined that if employees did not have convenient waste baskets at their desks, they would be less inclined to bag up their trash and toss it in the landfill bins.
Our Idea: "Trash Can Trade-In Day" was a campus-wide event that encouraged employees to help make the campus Greener by exchanging their deskside trash cans for prizes. The promo videos here were emailed to all Walker Campus employees to hype up the event, and later thank those who participated.
The Result: 1,075 (roughly 1/3) of Walker Campus employees traded in their trash cans.

Background: Every year since 1975, the Fred & Lena Meijer Scholarship has awarded undergraduate study scholarships to Meijer employees and their dependents. In 2016, the program experienced its first ever drop in applications after more than 40 years of continued growth. To bring numbers back up for 2017, it was decided that a company-wide campaign would be launched to raise awareness of the program.
My Idea: Create a compelling 5-6 minute-long episode of mCast, Meijer's employee-centric podcast, to draw visitors to the program's website.
The Result: The number of submitted online applications for 2017 exceeded 2016 by 10%, and the number of “un-submitted” or “abandoned” applications was reduced by 26%.
